Madhu Anant has been practicing yoga over 30 years. She was initially trained in traditional HathaYoga in India by a Swami in Nagpur who was a Master Yogi, a Sanyasi and a Bhikshuk. That meant he was detached from the materialistic world and ate only if someone offered him food, if not he had yogic power to control his appetite.
After immigrating to the US in 1977, Madhu further pursued training in Shivananda yoga, B.K.S. Iyengar and the Himalayan tradition of Swami Rama. Madhu is an advanced yoga teacher and is registered with Yoga Alliance, as well as the Himalayan Institute Teachers Association.
Being a Clinical drug development Scientist, Madhu uses her clinical knowledge to fuse with yogic practices. A typical class includes a focus on mind awareness (Manas/Chitta), connection of breath to the flow of movement (Viniyasa) and a connectedness to the eight limbs of Yoga (Asthanga).
There is special attention paid to posture and alignment for safe practice of Asanas followed by breathing practices (Pranayama) and concluding with relaxation (Shavasana). The total practice lends a body/mind connection that promotes good health.
Madhu is also a certified Ayurvedic wellness counselor.
As a gesture of gratitude to my late parents, I thought of Vijanant as the name for this website and complete yoga training as it represents their names -Vijaya, my mother and Anant, my father.
The Sanskrit word Jana, pronounced as "Gyana" means knowledge and Anant means eternal. Vijana, pronounces as "Vigyan," means science. Yoga is nothing but the eternal knowledge of the science of well being. It is an ancient science of spiritual and philosophical concepts of health and happiness.
Many other so-called yoga classes you may come across are simply generic fitness, stretching or exercise classes that, in some instances if not explained properly, can actually cause physical harm. Here at Vijanant Yoga, I want to share the full experience as it was originally intended - understand the true, real names/definitions/history of each pose, why theses poses should be done in a specific order for best results and what times of the day are optimal to perform them.
